The official synopsis is this: "After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie's collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind."
The Last of Us' premiere season in 2023 was HBO's most-watched first-season series ever. The new season will premiere sometime next year. The season received eight Emmy nominations, including outstanding drama series and performances by Pascal and Ramsey.
The release date coincides with "The Last of Us Day," September 26, which commemorates the cordyceps virus epidemic in Naughty Dog's original videogame The Last of Us.
Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann co-wrote and executive produced The Last of Us. Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O'Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells are executive producers on the series, which is co-produced with Sony Pictures Television.
