The film, written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, recounted the story of a bride (Weaving) who learns about her new family's wedding night ritual: pulling a card from a puzzling card game. If someone pulls the Hide and Seek card while playing, as she does, a violent game ensues, all in order to appease an ancient family's agreement with the Devil.
Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell were among the cast members.
Ready or Not, which cost only $6 million, generated more than $28 million domestically and was Searchlight's most widely distributed film at the time. It received positive critical reviews for its ability to create tension and murders while simultaneously making social commentary. Its reputation and profitability in the home entertainment business continue to improve.
Tripp Vinson, Bradley J. Fischer, William Sherak, and James Vanderbilt will return as producers. Villella and Tara Farney will executive produce.
Although no take or narrative specifics were provided, Busick and Murphy will also return to write.
The sequel was announced on the same evening that Searchlight had a screening of the film at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre. Weaving and Radio Silence were slated to attend the post-screening. Q&A
VP of Production Richard Ruiz and creative executive Cornelia Burleigh will lead the project for Searchlight, reporting to co-heads of production and development Dan Tram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.
Ready or Not elevated Weaving's and the directors' careers to new heights. Radio Silence resurrected the Scream franchise with 2022's Scream and 2023's Scream VI. They also took on vampire ballerinas in Abigail, which was released by Universal earlier this year.
Weaving has recently starred in Bill & Ted Face the Music, Searchlight Pictures' Chevalier, and Damien Chazelle's tribute to early Hollywood Babylon.
Weaving is represented by CAA and 111 Media. Radio Silence is represented by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
