Andra Day Joins Cast of 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians' Season 2 as 'Athena'
Season two of Disney's Percy Jackson and the Olympians will feature Andra Day as Athena, the network said on Sunday.
In Rick Riordan's immensely successful juvenile novel series, Day's Athena (the Greek goddess of wisdom) is the mother of Annabeth Chase (played by Leah Sava Jeffries).

"I can't wait to bring her to life and work alongside such talented actors," Day said in a video statement following Disney's announcement. "Stay tuned for this epic journey y'all."
Day's casting is the latest in a series of announcements from Disney about Percy Jackson's impending second season. Jeffries will return as Annabeth, with Walker Scobell (the titular Percy), Aryan Simhadri (Grover), Charlie Bushnell (Luke), and Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse). Daniel Diemer, a new cast member, will play Tyson the Cyclops in Season 2. Tamara Smart will portray Thalia Grace, Zeus' demigod daughter. Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, and Margaret Cho will also play the Gray Sisters in guest appearances.
Season two, planned to premiere in 2025, is based on The Sea of Monsters, Riordan's second book in the Percy Jackson trilogy. Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood a year after the events of Season One, only to find his world flipped upside down. His bond with Annabeth is deteriorating, he discovers he has a cyclops for a sibling, Grover has gone missing, and the camp is under attack by Kronos' men. Percy's quest to make things right will take him off the map and into the dangerous Sea of Monsters, where he will face an unknown fate.
Season two is executive produced by Riordan, showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, Rebecca Riordan, Craig Silverstein, Bert Salke, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein of The Gotham Group, Jeremy Bell and D.J. Goldberg, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler, and Sarah Watson.
