New Netflix Shows and Movies in December 2024

The Christmas season must be here, since Netflix's December offers are many. But be warned: not every title is joyful. To begin, Squid Game Season 2 is being released more than three years after the Korean drama launched, and anybody who has binge-watched Season 1 knows there is nothing joyful or festive about the series — though the notorious challenges modeled on children's games may trick you at first.

At first sight, the new series No Good Deed may appear to be an optimistic comedy. However, the show's primary protagonists, Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano, are about to establish that not all is as it appears in the magnificent property they're attempting to sell.

In December, Netflix will release an adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez's 1967 classic One Hundred Years of Solitude as well as a music biography starring Angelina Jolie.

Here are the Netflix shows and movies that we are most looking forward to this month, along with a comprehensive list of everything that will be added to and removed from the service in December.

The Best New Netflix Movies and Shows in December

One Hundred Years of Solitude: Part 1 (December 11)

Netflix's adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez's 1967 classic One Hundred Years of Solitude, which has been in development since March 2019, is now set to premiere. At least the first part is, which includes eight of the sixteen episodes. The narrative follows the Buendía family through generations as they live in the ideal community built by patriarch José Arcadio Buendía (Marco González). The film also stars Susana Morales as Úrsula Iguarán, Claudio Cataño as Colonel Aureliano, and Moreno Borja as Melquiades.

Maria (December 11)

If you missed the gorgeous poster for Pablo Larraín's next movie Maria, hunt for it now. We can only hope that the film, featuring Angelina Jolie as renowned opera singer Maria Callas, is as visually appealing as the teaser image. Maria follows the singer in her dying days, telling the tale of the woman behind the famous voice. All indications point to Jolie obtaining a Best Actress nomination for her performance. She is accompanied in the cast by Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alba Rohrwacher, Pierfrancesco Favino, and Valeria Golino.

No Good Deed (December 12)

In No Good Deed, three families compete for the same property: an exquisite 1920s Spanish-style home in Los Angeles. But edging out the competition may be the least of their concerns. That's because the home's owners, Lydia (Lisa Kudrow) and Paul (Ray Romano), are harboring truths that even they haven't faced. Liz Feldman, who is widely known for her dark comedy Dead to Me, developed the series.

Squid Game Season 2 (December 26)

Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) has opted, for unknown reasons, to play another round of Squid Game. That's right, after almost escaping death in the first season of the Korean thriller, Player 456 said, "Let's do this again!" Of course, we anticipate his plans for a comeback to the arena to be revealed in Squid Game Season 2. In the meanwhile, there's nothing wrong with Hwang Dong-hyuk's global sensation of a program returning with a fresh version of life-or-death games. Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-jun reprise their roles as the Front Man, Salesman, and Hwang Jun-ho, respectively. The second season's cast also includes Park Sung-hoon, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Jo Yu-ri, and Choi Seung-hyun.
