Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Everything We Know About the Spring 2027 Release

The fourth movie in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is slated to hit theaters on March 19, 2027.

The announcement comes just days after Sonic the Hedgehog 3 became the franchise's highest-grossing title, with ticket sales totaling more than $422 million worldwide. That's an impressive achievement for the threequel, which features Keanu Reeves as Shadow.

Furthermore, Paramount announced on Tuesday that Sonic 3 has generated more than $180 million in worldwide consumer spending through home entertainment rentals and purchases. Studios often avoid from disclosing home entertainment figures.

In a separate milestone, the Sonic franchise has reached $1 billion in box office revenue.

There is no indication yet on who will write or direct the fourth film, and story specifics have not been published. Jeff Fowler directed the first three Sonic the Hedgehog films and the third from a scenario by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington.

The third film saw the return of franchise regulars Ben Schwartz as the main character and Jim Carrey in a dual role as Dr. Robotnik and the mad scientist's grandpa.

Krysten Ritter, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter complete the Sonic 3 ensemble, with additional voices given by Keanu Reeves (Shadow the Hedgehog), Idris Elba (Knuckles), and Colleen O'Shaughnessey (Tails).

The franchise, which began with the February 2020 release of Sonic the Hedgehog, has also spawned the Paramount+ series Knuckles, which premiered in 2024.
